About the Graduate Support Program
In 1999 Notre Dame Middle School graduated 13 eighth graders and sent them off to Catholic high schools, thus launching the first year of the Graduate Support Program. Central to Notre Dame’s mission statement is its commitment to support our graduates after they leave our doors and go on to high school and higher education. The Graduate Support Program is designed to prepare students for admittance into college preparatory high schools and then into colleges. We are proud to announce that 96% of our resident graduates finish high school and 74% are pursuing associate, bachelor, and master degrees in various post-secondary institutions.
During their eighth grade year, NDMS students work closely with the Director of Graduate Support to find a school that is a right fit for each student. After graduation, the Graduate Support program then follows them to their different high schools, tracking the students’ accomplishments and working closely with teachers and guidance counselors to ensure the students’ success.
Graduate study halls are provided nightly at NDMS. Here the graduates have access to the computer lab, quiet study space, tutoring resources, and study skills development. The Graduate Support Program also matches current freshmen with volunteer mentors, linking them up with support from the community and positive life experiences that will support them in their academic endeavors. During their senior year, the Director of Graduate Support works again with them one on one, assisting students and parents in the college application and financial aid process.
When we are preparing for high school as an eighth grader, we are not alone. We have two great faculty members who help us get ready for the upcoming high school years. Personally, I would be lost without them.
