Our Mission

Notre Dame Middle School is a Catholic school for young women sponsored by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.  Following in the Christian tradition, Notre Dame fosters respect, responsibility and sharing of personal talents, and prepares students for admittance to a college preparatory high school.  In a bi-literate (English and Spanish) setting, with emphasis on leadership skills, critical thinking, and social justice young women are empowered to make positive contributions to society.

Three principles guide the educational process: Responsibility, Regalo ("Gift" in Spanish), and Respect.  Our students live our guiding values everyday.

Our Community

NDMS is located on the south side in the heart of Milwaukee’s Hispanic community.  The majority of our middle school students come from a community bordered on the north and south by National and Greenfield Avenues; on the east by South 6th Street, and on the west by South 27th Street.  It is a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood with White, Black and Hmong minorities.  It has the demographics one would expect…many immigrants, low-income levels, low education attainment levels…with many individuals and families not fully integrated into or comfortable with Anglo society.

It is against the backdrop that NDMS carries out its mission, having been started in 1996 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame with two classes in 5th and 6th grades for a total of  26 students.  Students of the first 6th grade class graduated from college in May, 2007.  NDMS has continued growing with over 120 students in grades 5 through 8.

The experience at NDMS has helped me realize what I am capable of achieving.
