Volunteer Opportunities

The Graduate Support Program relies on volunteers.

Become a Mentor

A mentor is a friend, advisor, teacher, counselor, and resource person. A mentor monitors academic progress, promotes greater involvement in school activities, encourages responsible behavior, fosters a positive self-image, involves parents, helps protégés develop post-high school plans and expands the awareness of career possibilities and the realities of the world of work and school.

Mentors are asked to make contact with NDMS graduates twice monthly and be a positive influence in their lives. Our mentors live across the greater Milwaukee area and represent various stages of life.

The Graduate Support Program hosts several optional mentor events a year to further support your relationship and make the commitment convenient to uphold. This year’s events included a summer picnic, evening at the Rockettes and a museum visit. For more information, please contact Angela Ulmer at 414.671.3000 or via email.

Become a Tutor

Notre Dame Middle School is seeking volunteers to help the Graduate Study Hall Program. Study halls are held at 1420 West Scott Street on Milwaukee’s south side from 3:30-6:00pm, Monday through Thursday. During this time, high school students return to Notre Dame for quiet study time, tutoring, and social and academic counseling.

You would tutor students who need help with math, literature, history, and other high school level courses. You could create your own workshop, supervise a smaller study group, or be paired with a struggling student for one-on-one tutoring. We ask for a weekly commitment but are happy to work with your schedules. This is a great opportunity for college students in service learning programs, retirees and others. We welcome male and female tutors. For more information, please contact Angela Ulmer at 414.671.3000 or via email.
