Student Profiles

5th Grade: Lucero Serna
Lucero's favorite part of NDMS is the teachers and meeting new friends. She says that when she first came to Notre Dame Middle School, everyone was really friendly and helpful. Her favorite class is math and she is excited to participate in volleyball and sewing in the After-School Enrichment Program this year. Lucero previously attended Bruce Guadalupe School at the United Community Center and came to Notre Dame Middle School because she has 2 sisters that both graduated from NDMS. One highlight of Lucero's summer was wearing a traditional dress and marching in the Mexican Independence Day parade.

8th Grade: Veronica Romo
Veronica is currently in her last year at Notre Dame Middle School and excels in both academics and athletics. Her favorite subject is math and her favorite activities are soccer, volleyball and mentoring. She has one younger sister that attends NDMS and is in 7 th grade. Her favorite part of NDMS is the teachers. Veronica had a busy summer attending Lake Valley Camp and also Badger Camp for Engineering. In her free time, she likes to listen to music, hang out with her friends, and play outside with her two little brothers. Next fall, Veronica is hoping to attend Dominican or Divine Savior Holy Angels High School.

Norma Mercado- Graduate of NDMS, Class of 2000
Norma graduated from Notre Dame Middle School in 2000 and admits, "It was my second home." She says the best part about NDMS is that there are so many resources available for the students. Norma is currently in her first year at Alverno College studying nursing. She attended PIUS High School where she was involved in numerous clubs such as, SADD (Students against destructive decisions) and the Multi-Cultural Club. She received financial support from Notre Dame and worked at St. Francis Hospital to continue her education at PIUS and now works at M&I bank to fund her college education. Senior year of high school, Norma completed an internship at Northwestern Mutual, which she says gave her "Real-world working experience." Because of her dedication to education, Norma has been the recipient of numerous other scholarships such as the Two-Ten Footwear Foundation, LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens) and a merit scholarship from Alverno. She is pursuing a career in nursing because she likes to help people and admits, " I want to be able to comfort them when they are sick."
